ONE EPISODE TWO OUTSIDERS
Ellie
tries to help pensioner Douglas Hart with his cataract problem. However he is
stubborn and gets by with a lot of help from his close friend Alice North.
Will is
being constantly nagged by is wife Sarah. She feels Jack's presence at The
Beeches will push Will into being a part-timer. Will says 'Roll on the day'.Dan Acres
implies to Sarah that Jack and Beth are seeing each other.
Jack and
Ellie tell Beth that she must be more firmer with hospital in order for Douglas
to get the operation he needs. Beth says it's not as easy as that and that
patients have to wait their turn.
Jack
later pops around to Beth's to discuss waiting list procedures. She invites him
to stay for dinner. They resolve to have a work free conversation, despite the
initial awkwardness they find that they alcohol in common!
Sarah
presses Will about Jack and Beth, she tells him what Dan said and says with Jack
and Beth now 'at it' he will certainly be pushed out of the practice.
Douglas
falls over whilst trying to answer the phone. His son Ian finds him and calls
Will. Will doesn't spot any damage but sends Douglas to hospital as a
precaution.
After
much wine Jack and Beth kiss. Jack breaks away and says he doesn't think it is a
wise thing to do as he is still on probation and Beth is his senior partner. He
leaves leaving Beth slightly rejected and very embarrassed.
Relations
are frosty the next morning especially when Will and Kim begin to make comments
about Jack and Beth's relationship.
BETH:
A coffee would be very welcome; very dark and very sweet
KIM:
Same as Jack then
Jack
offers Kim the job as practice manager. She accepts and Beth tells him he can
break the news to Ellie, who is bound to be thrilled that she will be managed by
a 22 year old.
Isabel
presses Beth about Jack. Beth wants to drop the subject and insists that Jack
doesn't fancy her and she doesn't fancy him - Isabel is not convinced!
After
being discharged from hospital Douglas writes letters for his nearest and
dearest before taking a cocktail of pills. Jack and Ellie race to save him on
time and Ian and Alice take root at his bedside.
Will is
unhappy that Jack spends all of his time playing 'superman' at the hospital.
Beth says that Jack has done more for The Beeches then they ever have. She tells
Will she wants to offer Jack a full partnership. Will says he is not happy about
the conspiracy that is blossoming and accuses Beth of having a 'camp' which Kim
and Ellie have happily joined.
WILL:
He came here, saw a lonely, vulnerable single senior partner and he set about
making this place his own, and if you can't see it Beth I can
BETH:
You mean Sarah can
Ian gets
angry with the hospital administrator - Jack stands up for him and they agree to
do Douglas's operation in four weeks. Douglas arrives home to a very pleased
Alice.
Beth
offers Jack the partnership - he accepts. Ellie is happy about Kim being the
practice manager as it will cut her workload. However she warns that she will
create a fuss if Kim acts like she owns the place. Isabel takes a photo of the
new team to hang on the surgery wall.
