SERIES ONE EPISODE
FIVE IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOUR
During a
medical seminar Rhianne annoys Beth by constantly throwing bits of paper at
Jack. After the seminar Rhianne asks Jack if he's free for the afternoon. He
says he is and Rhianne takes him to a football match on the back of her bike!
ISABEL: Are they sleeping together?
BETH:
How the hell should I know?
ISABEL:
I bet you'd give anything to find out
Rhianne
is on call when one of Beth's patients; Hilda is taken ill. Rhianne diagnoses meningitis
and sends her to hospital despite protest from Hilda's friends Liz and John.
Beth is
furious when she finds out and interrupts a drink between Jack and Rhianne to
tell Rhianne that Hilda doesn't have meningitis but the flu. Hilda's stiff neck
came from a fall and her other symptoms related to a bout of the flu that she
had just had. Beth tells Rhianne that if she had listened to Liz and John she
would've been able to spare Hilda going into hospital.
Over
dinner Rhianne tells Jack that she thinks Beth fancies him. Jack denies it and
says there is nothing going on between he and Beth. Jack and Rhianne kiss and
head for bed but are interrupted by an emergency call to Jack. He is called out
to see Mal; a young vicar who has had a seizure. Jack suspects epilepsy but Mal
doesn't accept his diagnoses. Angry and scared Mal takes his car up into the
peaks. Mal's friends fear he may have another seizure and Jack goes to look for
him. Eventually Jack finds him and begins treatment.
Will is
angry when Beth announces that The Beeches will no longer be sharing night cover
with the health centre. Jack says they will speak about it after work but Will
says it's too late - Beth has already spoken to John Reginald.
Rhianne
is evicted from her flat and arrives at Jack in the middle of a practice
meeting. Beth is jealous to see Rhianne with Jack and asks Isabel if she thinks
she was right not to get involved with Jack.
BETH:
Oh Isabel, tell me I was right not to get involved with Jack
ISABEL:
You are involved with Jack - you're not sleeping with him that's all
Later
Beth makes her peace with Rhianne and says as far as she is concerned things can
go back to normal. Beth also apologises to Jack for the way she has behaved. She
says she didn't mean to be jealous, he tells her there is no need to be jealous
as Rhianne is just his lodger - at which point Rhianne emerges covered in paint
from decorating Jack's house. Beth tells Jack not to lie to her and walks out. Jack
tells Rhianne he doesn't think they should sleep together anymore.
After Mal
comes to terms with his epilepsy Isabel tells Jack he is a medical success -
it's a shame his love life is such a mess.
